Ramadan Moon Sighted in Saudi Arabia Fasting to Begin Wednesday

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

RIYADH: The crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan has been sighted in Saudi Arabia with authorities confirming that the first day of fasting will fall on Wednesday February 18, 2026.

According to Saudi reports the official moon sighting session was held at Hautat Sudair where scholars along with experts from meteorology and astronomy departments, participated in the observation process. Similar meetings were conducted at seven additional locations across the Kingdom to ensure accurate verification.

Saudi media indicated that advanced technology was employed for moon sighting for the first time, reflecting efforts to enhance precision in determining the start of the Islamic month. The use of modern optical instruments and astronomical data supported traditional visual confirmation methods.

With the moon sighted Wednesday February 18, 2026 has been declared as 1st Ramadan 1447 Hijri. Muslims across the Kingdom will begin fasting, marking the commencement of the holy month characterized by prayer reflection, and community gatherings.

The announcement is closely followed by many countries that align their Ramadan observance with Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting decisions.
