Rawalpindi Blaze Contained After 16-Hour Rescue 1122 Operation
RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) — Rescue 1122 firefighters successfully extinguished a massive blaze in Rawalpindi after a 16-hour firefighting operation, officials said, adding that cooling activities were still underway inside the affected building.
More than 80 rescue personnel participated in the operation, deploying 21 emergency vehicles to control the fire. Firefighters continuously used foam-mixed water to suppress the flames, consuming over 200,000 liters of water during the prolonged effort.
Authorities said the intensity of the fire caused visible cracks in the structure, raising concerns about a potential building collapse. Due to safety risks, firefighters maintained a secure distance while continuing their operation. The presence of large quantities of combustible materials inside the building significantly contributed to the fire’s intensity and delayed containment efforts.
Given the severity of the situation, additional fire tenders and firefighting teams were called in from nearby districts to assist in the joint operation. Rescue officials said coordinated efforts helped prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding structures.
According to Rescue 1122 authorities, further details about damages and the possible cause of the fire will be released after the cooling process is completed and a full assessment of the site is conducted.
