WASHINGTON: The Saudi Embassy in Washington has denied reports suggesting that Saudi Arabia pressured former President Donald Trump to launch attacks on Iran. In a statement posted on X the embassy emphasized that the Kingdom has consistently supported diplomatic efforts aimed at building reliable agreements with Iran.
According to the embassy’s spokesperson, Saudi Arabia did not at any stage exert influence on the U.S. administration to change its policy toward Iran. The statement directly refuted claims made by a U.S. newspaper, which suggested that America’s strike on Iran occurred despite intelligence reports indicating that Iran posed no immediate threat to U.S. territory over the next decade.
Following the airstrikes Trump stated that U.S. ground forces would not enter Iran and that military objectives would be achieved through air and missile strikes alone. Experts, however note that historically it has been difficult to effect significant changes in a country’s internal political system solely through aerial power.
The Saudi embassy’s statement underscores Riyadh’s commitment to diplomacy over military confrontation and highlights the Kingdom’s consistent stance on supporting stability and dialogue in the region rather than advocating direct military intervention.
