ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Super 8 action continued at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, where England cricket team began their chase of Pakistan’s 165 run target under mounting pressure.
Earlier, Pakistan cricket team posted 164 for nine in their allotted 20 overs after captain Salman Agha elected to bat first. Sahibzada Farhan anchored the innings with a fluent 63, providing stability amid regular wickets.
England’s reply got off to a disastrous start. Phil Salt was dismissed on the very first delivery, falling to Shaheen Afridi. Afridi struck again soon after, removing Jos Buttler for just two runs. Jacob Bethell was also sent back cheaply as Pakistan tightened their grip.
By the end of seven overs, England were reeling at 58 for four, facing an uphill battle to recover. Pakistan’s bowling unit maintained disciplined lines and lengths, capitalizing on early momentum.
Pakistan had made one change to their lineup, bringing Shaheen Afridi into the playing XI in place of Faheem Ashraf, a move that quickly paid dividends. With wickets falling and required run rate climbing, the contest remains delicately poised.
