Singapore Fines 71 Year Old Woman for Repeatedly Feeding Pigeons

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

SINGAPORE A 71 year old Singaporean woman has been fined S$3,200 for repeatedly violating the country’s Wildlife Act underscoring Singapore’s strict enforcement of laws aimed at protecting urban wildlife and maintaining public hygiene.

The woman pleaded guilty to four charges related to feeding pigeons, while the court also considered five additional incidents as part of sentencing. This was not her first offense. In May 2025 she had been fined S$1,200 for similar actions, which included feeding pigeons and disrupting an official bird control operation. At that time she had assured authorities she would stop.

However, prosecutors revealed that she continued feeding pigeons on at least nine occasions between July 2025 and January 2026. Video evidence presented in court showed her scattering grain and bread near her home in Singapore’s Central Region, drawing large flocks of birds. Despite meeting her local Member of Parliament and expressing regret she reportedly resumed the activity just days later.

The prosecution argued that her repeated conduct demonstrated disregard for the law and requested a stronger penalty to deter future violations.

Although the woman cited unemployment and lack of medical insurance in seeking community service instead of a fine the court imposed the full amount, which she paid immediately.
