In the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup the South Africa cricket team delivered a dominant performance defeating the West Indies cricket team by nine wickets. The match played in Ahmedabad saw South Africa win the toss and opt to field first.
Batting first, West Indies posted a competitive total of 176/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Romario Shepherd led the scoring with a solid 50, while Jason Holder contributed an impressive 49 runs. Despite the strong total, South Africa’s bowling unit kept the pressure on. Lungi Ngidi claimed three crucial wickets supported effectively by Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch who picked up two wickets each.
Chasing 177 South Africa comfortably reached the target with remarkable ease, losing only one wicket. Captain Aiden Markram anchored the innings with an unbeaten 82. He received valuable support from Quinton de Kock (47) and Ryan Rickelton (45).
With this convincing victory, South Africa moved to the top of Group One in the Super Eight standings with four points. West Indies currently occupy second place, followed by India in third and Zimbabwe in fourth.
