Sri Lankan batter Viran Chamoditha has set a new record for the highest individual score in the history of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Chamoditha delivered a spectacular performance on Saturday against Japan in the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Playing at the Namibia Cricket Ground, he scored an astonishing 192 runs off 143 balls, breaking the previous record of 191 runs set by his fellow Sri Lankan, Hisith Boyagodda, against Kenya in 2018.
His memorable innings included 26 fours and one six, demonstrating remarkable skill and consistency. Chamoditha also shared a 328-run partnership with opening partner Dimantha Mahawithana, which is now the highest partnership for any wicket in Under-19 World Cup history.
Thanks to this record-breaking opening stand, Sri Lanka posted a massive total of 387 runs against Japan. In reply, Japan managed 184 runs for 8 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Sri Lanka Under-19 won the match by 203 runs, marking a historic victory and highlighting Chamoditha’s exceptional performance.
This remarkable achievement not only broke the previous individual record but also set a new benchmark for partnerships in youth cricket, further establishing Sri Lanka’s reputation for producing talented young players.
