Bugti blames Pakistan Sports Board for financial constraints and mismanagement, calls for independent inquiry
During a press conference in Lahore, Bugti expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for allowing him a two-year tenure. He highlighted that under his leadership, the national hockey team’s world ranking improved from 18th to 13th, a milestone he termed a significant achievement.
Bugti revealed that funds for the Pro Hockey League were held by the PSB, which led to logistical challenges during international tours, particularly the recent trip to Australia. He noted that checks were received only four days before the team’s departure, leaving $70,000 unavailable and causing hotel booking issues.
He placed full responsibility on the PSB and urged the formation of a committee to investigate the reasons behind the mismanagement. Bugti also stated that player Imad Shakeel Butt was suspended for two years after being found responsible for certain violations.
Calling for the PHF to be autonomous, Bugti emphasized the need for a new hockey board and transparent investigations, questioning how some sensitive information may have been leaked to India.
