WASHINGTON: The United States has taken action against family members of late Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, as Senator Marco Rubio confirmed the arrest of his niece and granddaughter. Both women, who held US green cards, have had their residency privileges revoked and now face deportation. US officials described the move as part of strict national security enforcement, signaling zero tolerance even in cases involving relatives of prominent figures.
Meanwhile, tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate. US President Donald Trump issued a stark 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, demanding it reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face severe consequences. The strategic waterway, which carries a significant portion of global oil shipments, remains effectively closed, raising alarm in international energy markets.
Military clashes have intensified, with reports of downed aircraft and ongoing search operations after a US F-15E fighter jet crash. Iran, however, maintains it has not refused diplomatic talks. Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s willingness for negotiations, particularly in Islamabad, while accusing US media of misrepresenting Iran’s stance on the conflict.
