US Vice President JD Vance has departed from Maryland for Pakistan to lead the American delegation in upcoming negotiations with Iran, scheduled to take place in Islamabad.
Speaking to the media before departure, Vance said he was heading to the talks under the guidance of President Donald Trump and expressed optimism about a positive outcome. He noted that the United States is prepared to move forward constructively if Iran engages in the dialogue with sincerity and good faith.
However, the vice president warned that any lack of seriousness or attempts at deception by the Iranian side would be met with a firm response from the US negotiating team.
The high-stakes talks between the United States and Iran are being hosted in Pakistan as part of its mediation efforts following the recent ceasefire between the two countries.
The US delegation includes Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, a senior advisor and son-in-law of President Trump. Iran will be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
The negotiations are seen as a crucial step toward easing regional tensions and potentially reaching a broader peace agreement.
