Nestlé has reported the theft of around 12 tons of KitKat bars in Europe after a truck carrying the shipment disappeared en route from Italy to Poland. The consignment included approximately 413,793 bars from a newly launched KitKat range.
According to the company the truck departed from central Italy but never reached its intended destination in Poland. Both the vehicle and its cargo remain missing, and officials have not disclosed the exact location where the theft occurred.
Nestlé confirmed that the stolen products can be traced through a unique batch code embedded on each bar. Anyone scanning the code will receive instructions on how to contact KitKat potentially aiding in recovery efforts.
In a statement the company acknowledged the unusual nature of the theft remarking on the exceptional taste of the criminals while emphasizing that cargo theft is a growing concern for businesses across Europe.
The incident underscores a rising trend of organized cargo theft targeting high value goods posing significant challenges to supply chains and logistics operations throughout the region.
