Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, focusing on regional peace and ongoing diplomatic efforts.
According to reports, the hour-long call centered on Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue and reducing tensions in the region. During the conversation, Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned continued Israeli attacks on Iran, particularly strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, and expressed solidarity with the Iranian people.
The prime minister also conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives and prayed for the recovery of those injured. He appreciated Iran’s acknowledgment of Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate peace and de-escalation.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s active diplomatic outreach, including engagement with the United States and Gulf and Islamic countries, aimed at encouraging dialogue between conflicting parties. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in resolving tensions.
Sources indicate that Pakistan is emerging as an important intermediary between Iran and the United States, helping convey messages between both sides. A quadrilateral meeting involving Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt is also expected soon in Islamabad to further support peace efforts.
