A minor altercation over a blocked road escalated into a fatal shooting, raising concerns over law enforcement jurisdiction and public safety.
RAWALPINDI: A tragic shooting incident in the jurisdiction of Waris Khan Police Station claimed the life of the wife of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Mufti Musarrat, police and local sources said.
According to initial reports, the victim was traveling with her brother to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology to attend to her ailing mother when they encountered a roadblock allegedly set up by an armed individual. Upon requesting the road to be cleared, a verbal exchange took place.
Witnesses said the suspect opened fire during the altercation, fatally injuring the woman at the scene. The attacker fled immediately after the shooting.
Police sources confirmed that confusion remains regarding whether the incident falls under the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station Rawalpindi or Waris Khan police, delaying immediate procedural action.
Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who have raised concerns about increasing violence over minor disputes and gaps in law enforcement coordination.
