Peshawar Zalmi extend unbeaten streak with a 24-run win over Multan Sultans in a high-scoring PSL
KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi maintained their unbeaten run in PSL 11 with a 24-run victory over Multan Sultans in a high-scoring encounter at National Stadium Karachi.
Batting first, Zalmi posted 196 for 6 in their 20 overs, driven by a commanding 68 off 40 balls from Kusal Mendis. Mohammad Haris provided early momentum with a quickfire 40 off 17 deliveries, while captain Babar Azam scored 18 off 20 before the innings slowed briefly.
Mendis steadied the innings and built crucial partnerships through the middle overs. Farhan Yousaf added 30 off 22 balls, and Iftikhar Ahmed contributed late runs to push the total near the 200 mark.
For Multan Sultans, Peter Siddle and Mohammad Ismail took two wickets each, while Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim Jr claimed one apiece.
Chasing 197, Multan struggled to maintain the required rate despite notable contributions from Shan Masood, who scored 35 off 19 balls, Josh Philippe with 32 off 17, and Steve Smith, who made 31 off 29. The Sultans finished at 172 for 8 in their allotted overs.
Sufiyan Muqeem led the bowling effort for Zalmi with figures of 3 for 30, supported by Nahid Rana and Iftikhar Ahmed with key breakthroughs.
Multan Sultans had elected to field first, but the decision proved costly as Zalmi capitalized with a strong batting display. With this result, Peshawar Zalmi remain at the top of the PSL 11 standings.
