KP Chief Minister Addresses Lawyers’ Jirga, Warns of Strike Over Fair Trial Concerns

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Provincial leadership raises concerns over judicial compliance and prison administration, setting deadlines for transparent legal proceedings.

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Suhail Khan Afridi on Friday addressed a national lawyers’ jirga, urging the legal community to resist what he termed an “illegal system” and to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law in Pakistan.

Speaking at the gathering, Afridi said the idea of convening the jirga was proposed by respected members of the judiciary to encourage lawful resistance against systemic irregularities. He emphasized that lawyers possess both the determination and capacity to defend constitutional rights and must demonstrate their strength if justice is to prevail.

The chief minister alleged that despite permission granted by three Islamabad High Court judges for a meeting with former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the superintendent of Adiala Jail ignored the directive. He questioned the authority of the Constitution if court orders are not implemented by administrative officials.

Afridi also expressed concern over the treatment of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, stating that their conditions raise serious legal and humanitarian questions. He added that Bushra Bibi, a non-political figure, has reportedly been kept in isolation without adequate access to meetings.

Referring to upcoming legal proceedings, Afridi noted that key cases involving the former premier and his spouse are scheduled for April 22. He called on the legal fraternity to ensure transparency in the trials and warned that failure to do so by May 5 would result in a complete boycott of court proceedings nationwide on May 6.

He further announced that another lawyers’ jirga will be held in Karachi on April 27 to strengthen collective action. Afridi concluded by stating that injustice cannot prevail indefinitely and that truth and justice ultimately triumph.
