District administration says seized poultry was being processed and supplied to local food outlets including shawarma and burger shops.
Authorities in Peshawar carried out a major food safety operation in the Chirgano Chowk area, seizing more than 1,200 dead chickens and uncovering an alleged supply network distributing unsafe meat across the city.
According to officials, the raid was conducted by the district administration following reports of illegal processing of dead poultry. The seized chickens were reportedly being cleaned and prepared for distribution to various food businesses.
The Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar stated that the group involved had been supplying meat from dead chickens to multiple outlets, including shawarma stalls, chicken burger vendors, and other eateries.
Authorities described the operation as a significant step in curbing the sale of hazardous food products and protecting public health. Officials warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the illegal activity.
Food safety teams have intensified inspections across the city to identify any additional links to the network and prevent contaminated meat from reaching consumers.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious food handling practices, while authorities continue their crackdown on violations of hygiene and safety regulations.
