Islamabad officials urge calm as panic buying spreads, insisting fuel reserves remain sufficient across the capital.
Islamabad: A wave of panic buying swept across fuel stations in the federal capital, as residents rushed to refill tanks amid circulating rumors of an impending petrol shortage. Long queues were reported at multiple pumps, raising concerns among commuters and daily wage earners.
However, the district administration has firmly rejected these claims, calling them “baseless and misleading.” In an official statement, authorities assured citizens that petrol stocks are available in ample quantity across all fuel stations in the city. Officials emphasized that reports suggesting disruption in fuel supply from the next day are entirely false.
The administration urged residents not to fall for misinformation, warning that unnecessary panic buying could itself create temporary disruptions. Citizens were also advised to report any fuel station found providing less petrol than requested.
To ensure transparency and immediate response, the district administration has activated a 24/7 control room, encouraging the public to report complaints or concerns via the helpline.
The situation highlights how quickly unverified information can trigger public anxiety, even when essential supplies remain stable. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while appealing for calm and responsible behavior from citizens.
