Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

The Pakistan Muslim League has formally constituted a parliamentary board to oversee candidate selection for the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan elections, with final authority resting in the chairman.

ISLAMABAD: In a significant political development ahead of the 2026 Gilgit-Baltistan elections, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) has constituted a high-level parliamentary board to finalize candidates and streamline its electoral strategy.

The move, officially notified under the directives of party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, signals the party’s early preparation to consolidate its position in the strategically important region. The formation of the board is being viewed as a critical step toward strengthening internal coordination and ensuring a structured ticket distribution process.

Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain has been appointed as the chairman of the parliamentary board, granting him decisive authority over candidate selection. According to the notification, his decisions regarding ticket allocation will be considered final, underscoring a centralized command approach within the party.

The board comprises a mix of senior leadership and key organizational figures, including Secretary General Tariq Hassan, Punjab Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, Chief Organizer Dr. Muhammad Amjad, and other prominent leaders. Representation from Gilgit-Baltistan has also been ensured, with regional president Dil Afraz Khan and Member of Provincial Assembly Tashfeen Safdar included in the panel.

Additionally, Central Information Secretary Ghulam Mustafa Malik has been named as a member of the board. The inclusion of diverse party wings is evident, with Women’s Wing President Farrukh Khan, Youth Wing President Kamran Usmani, and Hafiz Aqeel Jalil also joining the body.

Party leadership from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and the federal capital, along with the general secretary from Balochistan, have been incorporated into the board to ensure nationwide representation and coordination.

Under the mandate, the parliamentary board will be fully authorized to issue party tickets to candidates contesting the Gilgit-Baltistan elections. The party has set May 8 as the deadline for finalizing and issuing tickets, indicating an accelerated timeline for electoral preparations.

Political analysts view this development as part of a broader strategy by the PML to reinforce its organizational structure and project unity ahead of the elections. The centralized authority granted to the chairman may also help avoid internal disputes over nominations, a common challenge in party politics.

The Gilgit-Baltistan elections are expected to be closely contested, with major political parties intensifying efforts to secure voter support in the region, which holds both political and strategic significance for Pakistan.
