WANA: A powerful explosion rocked Rustam Bazaar in Wana, South Waziristan Lower, on Monday, killing three people, including prominent tribal leader and Chief of Ahmadzai Wazir, Malik Tariq Khan Wazir, officials and local sources confirmed.
According to sources, the deceased also included Malik Sarfaraz Wazir and Abdul Jabbar Wazir. The blast left at least four others injured, identified as Sikandar, Syed Anwar, Umar and Rashid.
The explosion triggered panic and chaos across the busy market area, with terrified residents rushing for safety moments after the blast occurred. Eyewitnesses said the intensity of the explosion could be heard from a considerable distance, causing widespread fear among traders and local residents.
Soon after the incident, local volunteers and rescue teams reached the site and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana after providing initial medical assistance.
Security forces cordoned off the area immediately after the attack and launched an investigation to determine the nature and motive behind the explosion. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed whether the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device or any other form of attack.
South Waziristan has witnessed multiple security-related incidents in recent years despite ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the tribal region. The latest attack is likely to raise fresh concerns regarding security conditions in the area.
