New details about Zanjeerain’s original casting choices have sparked debate among fans, revealing several surprising changes before the hit drama went on air.
The popular Hum TV drama Zanjeerain continues to captivate viewers with its emotional storyline and strong performances, but newly revealed casting details suggest the drama could have looked very different.
Directed by Shahzad Kashmiri, written by Farhat Ishtiaq, and produced by Momina Duraid Productions, the drama explores the tribal culture of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The story follows Rabiya, portrayed by Sajal Aly, whose life changes dramatically after the death of her husband.
According to television critic Dr. Ejaz Waris, the role of Sar Buland Khan, currently played by Daniyal Zafar, was originally offered to Bilal Abbas Khan. Had he accepted the role, viewers would have seen Bilal Abbas and Sajal Aly as the lead pair. However, Bilal reportedly declined the offer.
Another major change involved the character of Zafran Khan, which was initially offered to Nauman Ijaz. Meanwhile, the role currently portrayed by Sehar Hashmi was reportedly first assigned to Mamya Shajaffar, who even completed a day of filming before the casting was revised.
Dr. Ejaz Waris also claimed that Sehar Hashmi’s character will eventually exit the story, shifting the drama’s focus toward Usman, Sajal Aly, and Daniyal Zafar.
Fans have shared mixed reactions online. While many praised the current cast, others believe the original lineup could have elevated the drama even further. Some viewers speculated that Bilal Abbas Khan declined the role because another character had greater screen presence, while others expressed relief that he chose not to join the project.
