Just Hours Left: High-Stakes Battle Intensifies Across Gilgit-Baltistan Ahead of Polling Day

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

SHIGAR/CHILAS: Election campaigning for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections has entered its final hours, with political parties and independent candidates making a vigorous last effort to secure voter support before campaign activities officially conclude at midnight ahead of polling on June 7.

Across Shigar and other parts of the region, candidates remained actively engaged in rallies, corner meetings, and public outreach campaigns as the electoral contest reached its most critical stage. Door-to-door canvassing continued throughout the day, with contenders seeking to mobilize supporters and convince undecided voters before the mandatory election silence period begins.

Authorities have confirmed that all arrangements for polling have been finalized in the district. A total of 71 polling stations have been established to facilitate voters, while election officials have completed logistical preparations aimed at ensuring a smooth and transparent voting process.

Security remains a key focus ahead of polling day. According to officials, 17 polling stations have been categorized as highly sensitive, while another 26 have been declared sensitive. To maintain law and order, additional personnel from the Pakistan Army and Sindh Police have been deployed in the area, with security protocols being strengthened as campaigning comes to an end.

The GBA-12 Shigar constituency is expected to witness a highly competitive contest, with nine candidates vying for a seat in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. Political observers believe the constituency could emerge as one of the closely watched races in the region.

Election authorities have also emphasized that strict enforcement of the election code of conduct will begin immediately after campaigning ends. Candidates and political parties will be required to adhere to all regulations during the silence period leading up to polling day.

Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan Police reported that the overall law and order situation across the region remains stable and under control despite heightened political activity. Officials said electoral campaigning has largely remained peaceful since its commencement.

According to police data, a total of 614 political activities have been organized across Gilgit-Baltistan since May 1. These included 62 large public gatherings, 217 public meetings and inauguration ceremonies, 243 election offices established by candidates and political parties, and 92 political rallies.

Police authorities urged citizens to demonstrate responsibility, tolerance, and respect for the law throughout the electoral process. They also advised the public to avoid spreading rumors, engaging in provocative behavior, or participating in negative propaganda that could undermine the peaceful conduct of elections.

Residents have been encouraged to contact the emergency helpline 15 in case of emergencies or to report any information requiring police attention.

Voters across Gilgit-Baltistan are set to head to the polls on June 7 to elect representatives to the regional assembly, marking an important democratic milestone for the region as political campaigns draw to a close.
