ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has officially announced July 27 as the polling date for the region’s upcoming general elections, setting the stage for an intense political contest across the territory.
The release of the election schedule marks the formal beginning of electoral activities, with political parties expected to accelerate campaign preparations, candidate nominations, and constituency-level mobilization in the coming weeks. The announcement initiates the complete electoral process leading up to polling day.
Chief Election Commissioner and election authorities reaffirmed their commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent, and impartial elections. Officials stated that comprehensive arrangements are being finalized in collaboration with administrative and relevant institutions to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
According to the Election Commission, consultations with civil administration and security agencies are underway to establish an effective framework for election management. The appointment process for Returning Officers (ROs) is also expected to commence shortly following the issuance of the schedule.
Election officials emphasized that transparency and credibility remain central to the electoral process, with measures being implemented at every stage to ensure public confidence in the elections.
Security has emerged as a major component of preparations for the upcoming vote. Sources indicated that strict security arrangements are being planned, including the potential deployment of Pakistan Army personnel alongside Rangers and other law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order throughout the polling process.
Authorities aim to provide a secure environment for voters and candidates across all constituencies, ensuring that polling activities proceed without disruption.
The Election Commission revealed that more than 3.4 million registered voters will be eligible to cast their ballots in the elections. Significantly, over 500,000 new voters have been added to the electoral rolls through recent updates, broadening voter participation and potentially influencing electoral outcomes.
To enhance election management, the commission has strengthened coordination mechanisms at district and administrative levels, aiming to ensure efficient communication and effective implementation of election-related procedures.
With the election schedule now officially in place, political activity across Azad Jammu and Kashmir is expected to intensify as parties and candidates begin campaigning for what is anticipated to be a highly competitive electoral contest.
