Police arrest the wanted driver involved in the deadly Murree Expressway crash that killed 10 passengers and injured 16 others.
A major breakthrough has emerged in the investigation of the devastating Murree Expressway accident that shocked the nation earlier this week. Authorities have arrested the fugitive driver allegedly responsible for the deadly crash that left 10 people dead and 16 others injured after a passenger vehicle burst into flames.
According to police sources, the main suspect, Mumtaz Ahmed, a resident of Multan, was taken into custody by motorway police following a tip-off. The arrest was carried out by DSP Mahmood of the Motorway Police. The suspect had been wanted in connection with FIR No. 330/26 registered at Murree Police Station.
Officials said the suspect was also injured during the June 10 accident. Following his arrest, he was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad for medical treatment and first aid before further legal proceedings.
Motorway Police officials confirmed that DSP Aftab will hand over the suspect to Murree Police, where investigators are expected to continue questioning him regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
The tragic accident occurred on June 10 when a speeding Hiace vehicle reportedly crashed into a safety barrier on the Murree Expressway and caught fire. The vehicle was engulfed in flames within moments, resulting in one of the deadliest road accidents in the region this year.
The crash claimed the lives of 10 passengers, while 16 others sustained injuries of varying severity. Rescue teams and emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported victims to nearby hospitals.
Police have registered a case against the suspect under Sections 279, 322, 337-G, and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Investigators believe the arrest could help uncover crucial details about the events leading up to the crash and determine whether negligence or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
Authorities say further revelations are expected as the investigation progresses and the suspect is formally interrogated by Murree Police.
