Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced support for the Pakistan Peoples Party in forming the next government in Gilgit-Baltistan, citing democratic principles and the party’s electoral mandate.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally endorsed the Pakistan Peoples Party for government formation in Gilgit-Baltistan, stating that the party has earned the right to lead the region after emerging as the largest political force in the recent elections.
In a statement, the prime minister said the election results clearly placed the Pakistan Peoples Party in the strongest position to form the next government. He emphasized that democratic norms require the mandate of the largest party to be respected and implemented.
Shehbaz Sharif also announced that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) has decided to sit in opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. He said his party would support the PPP’s position on government formation and facilitate a smooth democratic transition.
The premier stressed that the process of establishing a government in Gilgit-Baltistan should move forward strictly according to electoral outcomes and democratic principles. He added that PML-N’s support reflects its commitment to political stability and respect for the public mandate.
The development is expected to play a significant role in shaping the region’s political landscape, as parties begin consultations on forming the next administration and setting governance priorities for Gilgit-Baltistan.
