ISLAMABAD: Authorities have completed comprehensive security preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram in Islamabad, with more than 15,000 police officers, Rangers personnel, and security officials deployed to safeguard religious activities from the 1st of Muharram through 19 Safar.
The large-scale security plan has been implemented under the special directives of Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. According to police officials, security personnel will be responsible for protecting 177 processions and 929 religious gatherings scheduled across the federal capital during the period.
A dedicated control room has been established at the Safe City Islamabad headquarters to monitor all processions and gatherings in real time. Senior police leadership, including deputy inspectors general, senior superintendents of police, and assistant inspectors general, will oversee security operations throughout Muharram.
To strengthen monitoring and accountability, 10 vigilance teams have been formed to inspect security duties, while daily search operations are being conducted across the district. More than 3,000 surveillance cameras and drones will support security monitoring, and Quick Response Teams will remain on high alert to address any emergency situation.
Police officials said units of the Capital Patrol Unit will conduct continuous patrolling around procession routes and gathering venues. Additionally, over 500 traffic officers have been deployed to maintain smooth traffic flow and minimize disruptions for commuters.
All relevant departments, including Operations, Security, Traffic, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Logistics, and Special Branch, will coordinate closely to ensure effective implementation of the security plan. Special briefing and training sessions have also been conducted for deployed personnel and volunteers.
Female police officers have been assigned to conduct security checks at women’s gatherings and processions, while senior police officers will carry out daily visits to Imambargahs to review arrangements and address concerns.
