Finance Minister Chaudhry Qasim Majeed is expected to present a Rs286 billion budget for fiscal year 2026-27, with increased allocations aimed at development and public welfare.
MUZAFFARABAD: The Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is set to convene its budget session at 11 a.m. today, where Finance Minister Chaudhry Qasim Majeed will present the annual budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
According to official sources, the proposed budget has been prepared with a total outlay of Rs286 billion, reflecting an increase of Rs24 billion over the revised budget of Rs262 billion for the current fiscal year.
The proposed financial plan includes Rs250 billion for non-development expenditures, while Rs36 billion has been earmarked for the Annual Development Program (ADP) to support ongoing and new development initiatives across the region.
The upcoming budget follows significant revisions made during the current fiscal year. Although the 2025-26 budget was originally approved at Rs310 billion, it was later reduced to Rs262 billion during the revised estimates due to fiscal adjustments.
Officials indicate that the new budget is expected to include important financial proposals for the education and health sectors, infrastructure projects, public welfare initiatives, and other priority development programs aimed at improving public services and economic growth.
Following the budget presentation, the Legislative Assembly will begin a general debate on the proposed financial plan. Members from both the treasury and opposition benches are expected to present their recommendations, observations, and criticism before the budget moves toward approval.
