Pakistan’s defense minister says the militant group’s claim of responsibility for the killing of Group Captain Asim Tariq is baseless and aimed solely at gaining publicity.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, has rejected the claim by the group referred to as “Fitna al-Khawarij” that it was responsible for the killing of Group Captain Asim Tariq in Islamabad, describing the assertion as baseless and misleading.
In a statement posted on X, the defense minister said the group’s claims carry no credibility and accused it of attempting to take credit for every major incident to gain public attention. He argued that such statements are intended to create publicity rather than reflect the facts surrounding the case.
Khawaja Asif further remarked that the group could eventually begin claiming responsibility for ordinary criminal acts, including theft and robbery, solely to remain in the spotlight.
According to the minister, the organization’s primary objective is self-promotion, adding that it has no regard for truth, ethical values, or accountability. His remarks come after the group’s public claim regarding the murder of Group Captain Asim Tariq, a case that has drawn significant public attention.
