Senior officials discuss expanding cooperation on polio eradication, routine immunization and child healthcare in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Khaliq ur Rahman held a high-level meeting with a delegation from the Gates Foundation at Serena Hotel Peshawar on Sunday to review ongoing collaboration in the health sector, with a strong focus on polio eradication and child immunization.
Health Secretary Shahid Ullah Khan attended the meeting alongside Gavi Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sania Nishtar. The participants discussed progress on routine immunization, child health protection, ongoing anti-polio campaigns and future joint initiatives.
The provincial health minister reaffirmed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s commitment to eliminating polio, stating that all available resources are being utilized to achieve the national goal. He emphasized that ending polio is a shared national and global responsibility requiring continued support from international partners.
Khaliq ur Rahman appreciated the Gates Foundation and Gavi for their sustained technical and financial assistance to Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said their support has significantly strengthened immunization services, the polio program and other key public health initiatives.
The meeting also reviewed strategies to improve access to remote and high-risk areas, enhance routine vaccination coverage and ensure timely immunization for children. The delegation praised the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare services and reaffirmed its commitment to continued cooperation.
