Nepra Approves Rs200 Billion Grid Cost Recovery, Electricity Bills May Rise From August

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Nepra has authorized the recovery of Rs200 billion in National Grid system costs through power distribution companies, raising concerns over higher electricity tariffs for consumers from August 1, 2026.

Islamabad: Pakistan’s power consumers may face another increase in electricity bills after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved the recovery of Rs200 billion in National Grid system costs.

According to official sources, the National Grid Company approached the regulator to recover revenue-related system expenses accumulated over the past three years. Following the completion of public hearings, Nepra issued its written determination allowing the recovery.

Under the decision, the approved amount will be collected through electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) across the country starting August 1, 2026. The recovery mechanism will allow distribution companies, including Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), to incorporate the additional charges into consumer tariffs.

The approved recovery is intended to cover National Grid operational and system-related expenses. As a result, electricity tariffs are expected to increase on a per-unit basis, placing an additional financial burden on residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.
