Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb says tackling rapid population growth and climate change is essential to achieving Pakistan’s long-term development goals and Vision 2047.
ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has identified rapid population growth and climate change as the two biggest challenges facing Pakistan, warning that both issues must be addressed to secure the country’s long-term economic and social development.
Speaking at a seminar held to mark World Population Day, Aurangzeb said the government would ensure effective implementation of the national population strategy through the National Population Council. He added that progress would be monitored regularly through quarterly and annual reviews based on key performance indicators.
The finance minister said Pakistan’s ambition of becoming a developed country by 2047 depends on effectively managing population growth. He stressed that sustainable development requires coordinated national efforts to balance economic progress with demographic realities.
Aurangzeb also called for a review of the National Finance Commission (NFC) award formula, saying resource distribution should better reflect current population-related realities across the country.
