Veteran actor Abu Rohan shares how a chance television appearance launched his acting career and made him the most recognizable Nikah Khuwan in Pakistani television.
If you have followed Pakistani television over the years, chances are you have seen Abu Rohan without realizing his name. The veteran actor has become one of the industry’s most familiar faces by portraying the Nikah Khuwan in dozens of hit dramas, making him an unforgettable part of countless television weddings.
Abu Rohan has appeared in marriage scenes in several blockbuster serials, including Tere Bin, Siyani, Sunn Mere Dil, and Yunhi. His appearance has become a familiar signal for viewers that a drama is reaching one of its most emotional moments.
Speaking in a recent interview with BBC Urdu, Abu Rohan revealed that his journey into acting began unexpectedly. Rather than entering the entertainment industry through auditions, he was invited to a morning television program around 35 years ago as a professional jeweller to answer viewers’ questions about gold.
According to Abu Rohan, his confidence on camera impressed drama producers, who soon offered him acting opportunities. That unexpected appearance opened the door to a television career spanning more than three decades.
The veteran actor said he has performed the role of Nikah Khuwan in approximately 80 to 85 television dramas. He also shared that he spent nearly eight years living in Bahrain, where he continued acting in television productions.
Although the Nikah Khuwan is generally a calm and composed character, Abu Rohan explained that the role sometimes requires genuine acting. Wedding scenes can involve emotional confrontations or unexpected conflicts, requiring him to react naturally while maintaining the seriousness of the ceremony. He added that directors have also cast him in a variety of roles beyond officiating fictional weddings.
His popularity has extended beyond television screens. Abu Rohan revealed that many admirers have invited him to officiate their real-life marriages. However, he respectfully declines such requests, saying that Nikah is a religious responsibility. Instead, after the official ceremony is completed, he occasionally offers prayers for the newly married couple.
