Journalists and local residents have called for an impartial investigation after a longtime newspaper vendor claimed his only source of income was taken away following the removal of his roadside stall in Nowshera.
NOWSHERA: The removal of a roadside newspaper stall by the Nowshera Cantonment Board has sparked concern among journalists, social activists and local residents, who are urging authorities to investigate the incident and restore the vendor’s livelihood.
According to the affected newspaper seller, Sher Zaman, he had been earning a living for his family through newspaper sales for several years. He alleged that officials from the Nowshera Cantonment Board removed his stall, leaving him without his only source of income.
Sher Zaman further claimed that two board officials, identified by him as Wajid and Rizwan, had repeatedly warned him over the past several days that his stall would be removed before the action was ultimately carried out. These allegations have not been independently verified.
The incident has drawn criticism from members of the local journalist community and residents, who described the reported removal of the stall as a serious blow to a hardworking individual struggling to support his family. They argued that if legal or administrative concerns existed regarding the stall, the vendor should have been provided adequate notice and an opportunity to arrange an alternative location.
The affected vendor, along with members of civil society, has appealed to the Commissioner Peshawar, Deputy Commissioner Nowshera, Chief Executive Officer of the Nowshera Cantonment Board and other relevant authorities to conduct a transparent inquiry into the matter.
They have also requested that responsibility be determined, appropriate action be taken if any wrongdoing is found, and Sher Zaman’s stall be restored so he can resume earning a dignified livelihood for his family.
