Unofficial and provisional results from 13 constituencies indicate Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has secured a commanding lead in the Mirpur Division, while Pakistan Peoples Party has won three seats and one on lead.
MUZAFFARABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as the leading political party in the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, according to unofficial and provisional results received from 13 constituencies in the Mirpur Division.
The preliminary results show PML-N winning nine constituencies, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has secured three seats, one on lead giving PML-N an early advantage in the electoral contest.
According to the unofficial tally, PML-N candidates were declared successful in LA-1 Mirpur, LA-4 Mirpur, LA-5 Bhimber, LA-6 Bhimber, LA-7 Barnala, LA-8 Samahni, LA-11 Sehnsa, LA-12 Charhoi, LA-13 Khoi Ratta.. Notable winners include Chaudhry Rukhsar from LA-4, Waqar Ahmad from LA-5, Muhammad Asif from LA-11, and Raja Ayaz from LA-13.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party claimed victories in LA-2 Mirpur, where Qasim Majeed won, LA-3 Mirpur, and LA-8 Kotli, where Zafar Iqbal emerged victorious.
The results remain unofficial and provisional, with the Election Commission expected to release official notifications after the completion of vote consolidation and verification procedures.
