Global oil markets fell sharply after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a proposed military strike on Iran would not move forward, easing fears of an immediate supply disruption.
Global oil prices declined significantly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a proposed military strike on Iran had been called off, reducing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
According to Reuters, benchmark crude prices dropped by more than $4 per barrel as traders reacted to the development and reassessed the risk of potential disruptions to global oil supplies.
Brent crude fell by $4.08 to settle at $83.85 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined by $4.01, trading at $80.66 per barrel.
Oil markets have remained highly sensitive to developments involving Iran, a major regional energy producer. Any indication of escalating conflict in the Middle East typically pushes prices higher due to concerns over supply security. However, Trump’s latest statement eased those fears, triggering a sharp sell-off in crude futures.
