Pakistan’s political leadership renewed its diplomatic and moral support for the people of Indian-administered Kashmir, calling for international attention to the region on Kashmir Exploitation Day.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan observed Kashmir Exploitation Day on August 5 with senior political leaders renewing their support for the people of Indian-administered Kashmir and reiterating Pakistan’s long-standing position on the disputed region.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan remains committed to supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He described India’s constitutional changes of August 5, 2019, as unlawful and reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued moral, political and diplomatic backing for Kashmiris. Dar also urged India to reverse measures that changed the constitutional status of the region.
The Foreign Office said Kashmir Exploitation Day serves as a reminder of the events of August 5, 2019, while paying tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of the people of Indian-administered Kashmir. It reiterated Islamabad’s continued support for their cause.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to take notice of alleged human rights violations in the region. She also paid tribute to the families affected by the Kashmir conflict and said Pakistan does not recognize India’s constitutional changes introduced in 2019.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said India’s actions were inconsistent with United Nations Security Council resolutions and urged the international community to play a more active role in protecting human rights in Kashmir.
Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani criticized the August 5 measures, saying attempts to alter the demographic composition and identity of the region were unacceptable.
In Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi led a solidarity rally from the Civil Secretariat to the Governor House. Addressing participants, he said Pakistan would continue standing alongside the people of Kashmir and support their aspirations.
Sindh Home and Law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said restrictions and the use of force could not weaken the determination of the Kashmiri people. Sindh Assembly Speaker Owais Qadir Shah also urged the United Nations to take a more effective role in addressing the situation.
Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions. Senator Sherry Rehman praised the resilience of Kashmiris, while Federal Minister Amir Muqam reiterated Pakistan’s support during a rally in Islamabad and criticized India’s policies in the disputed territory.
