Pakistan’s latest fortnightly petroleum price adjustment raises petrol prices to Rs333.10 per litre while reducing high-speed diesel by Rs2, effective August 6.
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs4.45 per litre while reducing the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.00 per litre under its latest fortnightly petroleum price review.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised fuel prices came into effect on August 6. Following the latest adjustment, the retail price of petrol has risen to Rs333.10 per litre, while high-speed diesel now costs Rs383.86 per litre.
The government reviews petroleum prices every two weeks based on changes in international crude oil prices, refined petroleum product premiums, freight costs and fluctuations in the rupee-dollar exchange rate. Officials say the pricing mechanism is designed to keep domestic fuel prices aligned with global market conditions while supporting fiscal commitments.
The increase in petrol prices is expected to affect millions of motorists, motorcycle riders and daily commuters, as petrol remains the primary fuel for passenger vehicles across Pakistan. Higher fuel costs may also contribute to increased transportation expenses, adding pressure on household budgets.
Meanwhile, the reduction in diesel prices is expected to provide limited relief for sectors that rely heavily on the fuel, including transportation, agriculture and industrial operations. Diesel powers heavy commercial vehicles, farm machinery and irrigation equipment, making it a key input for economic activity.
