PM Shehbaz Sharif says rising remittances reflect the strong contribution of overseas Pakistanis to economic stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over the receipt of $3.6 billion in remittances from overseas Pakistanis, describing the inflow as an encouraging development for the country’s economy.
The prime minister praised the contribution of overseas Pakistanis, saying their continued financial support is playing a positive role in strengthening Pakistan’s economic stability. He described the overseas Pakistani community as a valuable and integral part of the country’s national economic framework.
According to the figures highlighted by the prime minister, remittances recorded a 4.5% increase in July on a month-on-month basis. The year-on-year rise was even more significant, with remittance inflows increasing by 13%.
Shehbaz Sharif said the higher inflow of remittances was a welcome sign and reflected the important role played by Pakistanis living and working abroad. Remittances remain a key source of foreign exchange for Pakistan and help support household incomes as well as the broader balance of payments position.
The latest increase comes as the government continues to emphasize measures aimed at improving economic stability and strengthening foreign exchange reserves. Sustained remittance growth can also reduce pressure on external financing needs and provide greater support to the domestic economy.
The prime minister’s remarks underscore the government’s appreciation for overseas Pakistanis, whose financial contributions remain closely linked to Pakistan’s economic outlook.
