PM Shehbaz Orders Faster FBR Reforms as Faceless Tax System Nears Major Rollout

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

PM Shehbaz Sharif directs the FBR to accelerate enforcement, expand digital reforms and ensure full rollout of the faceless Inland Revenue system by 2027.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to accelerate implementation of ongoing reforms, with a particular focus on stronger enforcement, digitisation and the introduction of a faceless tax system.

The prime minister issued the directives while chairing a weekly review meeting on FBR reforms in Islamabad. He welcomed growing confidence among the business community in the government’s tax reform measures and directed the FBR chairman and senior officials to spend two days every month in Lahore in addition to Karachi to engage with stakeholders.

Shehbaz Sharif ordered the FBR to speed up enforcement measures to help achieve the prescribed revenue target. He also appreciated action against illegal cigarette manufacturing factories in Chakwal and Swabi.

The prime minister directed authorities to complete the proposed faceless Inland Revenue system on schedule and ensure its full rollout by 2027. Officials told the meeting that the first phase of the system is scheduled to become operational from Oct. 1 this year.

According to the briefing, the AI- and modern technology-based system is a key component of the FBR’s digitalisation reforms. It will include a National Faceless Audit Wing for tax-return audits and a Faceless Assessment Unit for assessments.
