Fifteen corruption references have been restored to NAB courts after the Sindh High Court overturned their earlier transfer to anti-corruption courts.
KARACHI: Fifteen corruption references in Karachi are being returned to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) courts after the Sindh High Court ruled that their earlier transfer to anti-corruption courts was invalid.
The development followed an application submitted by a NAB prosecutor seeking restoration of the cases in line with the high court’s decision. The accountability court has begun proceedings to revive the 15 references and has issued notices to the accused individuals named in them.
The cases involve allegations of corruption, misuse of authority and illegal allocation of land. The court has summoned several serving and former government officials, along with revenue officers and private individuals linked to the references.
Among those issued notices are Balochistan provincial minister Ali Hassan Brohi, former Sindh chief secretary and former Land Utilisation member Siddiq Memon, former Malir deputy commissioner Qazi Jan Muhammad and former district officer revenue Ijaz Hussain.
The court also summoned former additional secretary of Land Utilisation Abdul Qadir Memon and former section officer Ghulam Mustafa. Treasury officer Muhammad Musa Kazmi and assistant treasury officer Abdul Latif Khoso were also included in the proceedings.
Further notices were issued to Mirpur Sakro tapedar Nisar Ahmed Wagan, Ali Asghar Mendhro, former Mukhtiarkar Iqbal Awan and Muhammad Hanif.
Several revenue officials and builders, including Javed Iqbal and Waseem Ahmed Sheikh, have also been called to appear before the court.
