Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik praises Abdullah Shafique’s patience, balance and shot selection against fast bowlers in England.”
LONDON: Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has praised Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique for his composed approach and strong batting technique in England’s challenging conditions.
Karthik highlighted Shafique as an example of how Asian batters can adapt to English conditions, where swing and seam movement can create significant problems for players facing the new ball.
“He has shown very good technique against fast bowlers in English conditions,” Karthik said, praising Shafique’s ability to remain controlled at the crease while facing a demanding pace attack.
The former India international was particularly impressed by Shafique’s soft hands, balance and disciplined shot selection. Rather than attempting to force the scoring rate, the Pakistan batter has shown a willingness to wait for deliveries that can be attacked.
Karthik also pointed to Shafique’s attractive strokeplay, including his cover drives, shots through the mid-on region and elegant flicks. His ability to combine attacking strokes with patience has helped him remain effective against fast bowlers.
England traditionally presents a difficult challenge for batters from the subcontinent because the new ball can move significantly under favorable conditions. A solid defensive technique, good balance and careful decision-making are therefore crucial to building an innings.
