Pakistan Has Potential to Become Regional Technology Hub, Says SECP Chairman

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu says digitalization, regulatory reforms and Pakistan’s young technology workforce can strengthen the country’s position in the global IT economy.

Pakistan has the potential to emerge as a major regional hub for technology services, digital solutions and global IT delivery, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said.

Dr. Sidhu made the remarks while welcoming the expansion of U.S.-based technology company MOBIZ in Pakistan with the establishment of its regional office at NASTP Silicon 1 in Karachi.

He said Pakistan’s growing pool of young technology professionals, combined with continued digitalization and regulatory reforms, could strengthen the country’s position in the global technology economy.

MOBIZ is a Pakistani-owned technology company based in Silicon Valley in the United States. It provides cloud computing, data, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity services across multiple international markets.

Dr. Sidhu said the expansion of international technology companies in Pakistan reflects growing confidence in the country’s skilled workforce and the potential of its digital ecosystem.

Digitalization Key to Competitiveness

The SECP chairman said Pakistan’s economic competitiveness will increasingly depend on its ability to adopt digitalization, innovation and technology-driven business models.

He said the SECP is working to develop a more transparent, efficient and technology-enabled regulatory environment that supports enterprise, investment and innovation.

The regulator is also simplifying and modernizing frameworks covering the corporate sector, capital markets, insurance, non-bank financial services and corporate debt markets while aligning them with international standards and emerging business needs.

According to Dr. Sidhu, greater use of technology can reduce the time and cost of doing business, improve transparency and compliance, facilitate investment and help companies scale more efficiently.

He added that the SECP aims to make regulatory interactions increasingly digital, seamless and business-friendly while maintaining strong governance and investor protection standards.

Pakistan’s IT Workforce Offers Growth Potential

Dr. Sidhu said Pakistan’s young population and expanding technology workforce provide a strong foundation for future economic growth.

He said creating quality employment and connecting Pakistani professionals with international markets will be critical to converting the country’s demographic strength into sustainable economic growth.

MOBIZ currently has more than 170 professionals across four continents, with capabilities spanning cloud computing, data, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

Dr. Sidhu said the company’s growing presence in Pakistan highlights opportunities in the country’s technology sector and could contribute to new employment and international work opportunities for local professionals.

He congratulated MOBIZ and its leadership on the launch of the Karachi office and expressed hope that the company would continue expanding its operations in Pakistan.
