Veteran actor Nauman Ijaz has revealed details of his 2024 cancer diagnosis and explained how prayer and faith helped him cope with the difficult period.
Veteran Pakistani actor Nauman Ijaz has opened up about his battle with cancer, revealing that he was diagnosed with the disease in June 2024 and saying his faith became a major source of strength during the difficult period.
Nauman, one of Pakistan’s respected television actors, said doctors discovered a tumor near his ear and also diagnosed lymphoma in his stomach. The diagnosis came as a major shock, prompting him to turn toward prayer and reflect deeply on his life and family.
Recalling the experience, the actor said he prayed to Allah for mercy after learning about his condition. He said he had never intentionally wronged anyone, taken another person’s money or cheated anyone.
Nauman also expressed concern about the impact of cancer treatment on his family. He said he did not want his loved ones to endure the emotional stress associated with hospital visits and chemotherapy.
Following his diagnosis, the actor began reciting Quranic verses before going to sleep. He said the uncertainty surrounding his health sometimes made him wonder whether he would wake up the following day, which encouraged him to devote more time to prayer.
During this period, his friend Gohar Butt advised him to recite Surah Rahman every day. Nauman followed the advice and incorporated the recitation into his daily routine.
The actor said he believes the recitation and his prayers were closely connected to his recovery. According to Nauman, the tumor near his ear was removed through surgery, while the lymphoma in his stomach later disappeared from his medical scans.
He said doctors had planned to begin chemotherapy in July. However, when the lymphoma was no longer visible in subsequent scans, he was surprised by the result.
Nauman described his recovery as a great blessing from Allah and expressed gratitude for being given another chance at life. His account highlights the personal and emotional challenges he faced beyond the medical aspects of his illness.
Nauman began his acting career in 1998 and has appeared in numerous successful dramas, including Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi, Man O Salwa, Parizaad, Bashar Momin, Dunk, Mayi Ri, Bismil and Sharpasand.
