Field Marshal Asim Munir reviews POF Wah’s production capabilities, locally developed weapons and plans to expand indigenous defence manufacturing.
RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Saturday visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Wah and reviewed its defence production capabilities, export potential and efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s indigenous defence industrial base, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the visit, the army chief received a detailed briefing on various activities at POF and its contribution to strengthening the country’s defence capabilities.
Officials briefed Field Marshal Asim Munir on the local production and development of different types of military equipment. The briefing also covered initiatives aimed at expanding indigenous manufacturing capacity and reducing reliance on external sources.
The field marshal also witnessed trials and testing of weapons and ammunition designed and manufactured locally. The demonstrations provided an overview of capabilities being developed within Pakistan’s defence industrial sector.
A key focus of the briefing was the ongoing process to transform POF into a more commercially oriented and corporate institution. Asim Munir was apprised of progress on the restructuring process, as well as efforts to expand local manufacturing and upgrade existing production facilities.
According to ISPR, two new industrial plants are currently being installed at POF, with production expected to begin by the end of the current year. The facilities are expected to further expand the organisation’s manufacturing capacity.
The visit also highlighted the importance of improving the export potential of Pakistan’s defence products. The development of competitive, locally manufactured equipment could help expand the country’s presence in international defence markets and create additional economic opportunities.
The Pakistan Army reiterated its commitment to self-reliance, indigenous production and technological innovation in the defence sector.
POF Wah is one of Pakistan’s major defence production centres and has historically played an important role in supplying military equipment and ammunition to the armed forces.
The latest initiatives, including the installation of new industrial plants, production upgrades and the proposed corporate transformation, are aimed at modernising POF and enhancing its ability to meet evolving defence requirements.
