The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the interim report was made public on the prime minister’s instructions as authorities continue investigating the PIMS incident.
The interim inquiry report into the “extremely unfortunate” incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has been made public on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the development in a post on X, stating that the report had been released as directed by the prime minister.
The publication of the report follows a high-level review of the PIMS incident, which identified serious shortcomings in fire safety arrangements, emergency procedures and response mechanisms at the hospital.
According to the interim findings reported after the inquiry, the neonatal ward lacked a fire alarm and sprinkler system, while existing standard operating procedures did not adequately address fire and emergency situations. The report also highlighted delays in contacting emergency services and the arrival of the first response team.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that those found responsible for negligence face disciplinary and criminal proceedings. He has also ordered authorities to complete the detailed investigation and submit a final report.
The government’s decision to make the interim report public is aimed at placing the findings before the public while the investigation into the PIMS tragedy continues.
