CDA directs Polyclinic Hospital to fix fire detection, firefighting, emergency lighting and evacuation systems within the required timeframe.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has imposed a Rs500,000 fine on Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad over continued non-compliance with fire and life safety requirements.
According to the CDA correspondence, fire safety deficiencies at the hospital have not been addressed despite previous directions. The hospital has been instructed to deposit the fine within seven days.
The correspondence also mentions the loss of newborn babies’ lives in a fire incident and directs the hospital administration to immediately address the identified fire safety shortcomings.
The CDA has ordered Polyclinic Hospital to ensure that its fire detection and alarm system, firefighting system and emergency lighting are properly functional. The hospital has also been directed to improve exit signs and ensure safe emergency evacuation routes.
The CDA Fire Service has sought a technical and documentary report detailing the corrective measures taken by the hospital. The report is intended to document compliance with the required fire and life safety measures.
The authority will conduct a follow-up inspection of Polyclinic Hospital after the corrective measures have been completed.
