The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to sell the Multan Sultans franchise immediately, advancing its earlier plan to auction the team next year, sources confirmed on Saturday. The move comes amid rising investor interest in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
During the recent auction of the Hyderabad and Sialkot franchises, the PCB reportedly received strong expressions of interest in Multan Sultans as well, prompting the board to fast-track the sale process. According to sources, the auction will now be held before the upcoming PSL season.
The PCB is expected to issue an official advertisement in the coming days to invite eligible bidders, with the sale to be conducted under the same procedure used for the Hyderabad and Sialkot franchises. Officials believe the current momentum around the league could result in competitive bids and strengthen the board’s financial position.
Earlier, the PCB had announced it would temporarily take over Multan Sultans’ operations for PSL 11 after former owner Ali Tareen opted not to renew his ownership contract, ending his seven-year association with the franchise. Tareen cited differences with PSL management and other franchise owners as the reason for his exit.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had stated that the board would manage the team to ensure continuity. However, the latest development signals a shift towards an earlier sale. Meanwhile, the PSL players’ draft is expected to take place on January 30.
