IT Sector Leads as SECP Registers 4,761 New Companies in August

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

SECP says digital registration and business facilitation continue to support entrepreneurship, while the IT sector leads new incorporations.

ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) registered 4,761 new companies in August 2026, taking the total number of registered companies in the country to 311,765, according to figures released by the regulator.

The latest registrations reflect continued business formalization and entrepreneurial activity, with SECP attributing the momentum to its facilitation measures and digital transformation initiatives. Nearly all registrations 99.9% were completed online through integrated federal and provincial systems, supported by the eZfile portal.

SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said the continued increase in corporate registrations reflected growing trust among entrepreneurs and investors in Pakistan’s regulatory framework.

“The continuous surge in corporate registrations reflects the growing trust of entrepreneurs and investors in Pakistan’s transparent and business-friendly regulatory framework, powered by our digital transformation initiatives,” he said.

Private companies accounted for the largest share of new incorporations in August, with 2,762 companies, or 58.01%, followed by 1,846 single-member companies, representing 38.78% of registrations.

The SECP also registered 113 limited liability partnerships (2.37%), 28 not-for-profit companies (0.59%) and 12 other companies (0.25%), including public companies, foreign companies and trade organizations.

The distribution indicates a strong preference among startups, small and medium-sized enterprises and individual entrepreneurs for private and single-member corporate structures.

Punjab remained the largest contributor to new registrations, accounting for 2,547 companies, or 53% of the total. Islamabad Capital Territory followed with 843 registrations (18%), while Sindh recorded 702 (15%), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 407 (9%), Gilgit-Baltistan 151 (3%) and Balochistan 111 (2%).

The Information Technology sector led all industries with 872 new incorporations during the month. Trading followed with 732, while services recorded 601 registrations.

Other major sectors included construction with 295 companies, tourism 232, food and beverages 216, e-commerce 152, real estate development 143, education 129, and mining and quarrying 103. A further 1,286 companies were registered across other sectors.

Foreign participation also remained notable. During August, 134 foreign investors from several countries participated in newly incorporated companies, with investors from China accounting for 106 of them.
