LHC Hears Bail Petition in Umeri Video Case, Notices Issued to Police

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has issued a notice to police while hearing a bail petition filed by Umair Raza, also known as “Umeri,” an accused in a widely circulated obscene video scandal.

Justice Jawad Zafar heard the bail application and directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of the relevant police station to submit a reply, seeking the official stance of law enforcement on the matter.

During the hearing, counsel for the accused, Umair Anser Goraya, argued that his client had no connection with the obscene video that went viral on social media. He maintained that no footage existed showing the petitioner’s presence at the alleged scene and claimed that the video had been falsely attributed to his client.

The defense further contended that police had registered the case without proper justification and unlawfully detained the accused. The lawyer requested the court to grant bail, citing lack of evidence and misuse of legal provisions.

Earlier, Gujranwala police had taken a woman into custody in connection with the viral video and registered a case under charges of adultery. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

The court adjourned the hearing after issuing notices, stating that a decision on the bail application would be made after reviewing the police response. The case has attracted significant public attention due to its widespread circulation on social media and serious legal implications.
