Supreme Court rejects the opposing party’s plea and orders implementation of its 2022 ruling in favor of Zitun Bibi of Dera Ismail Khan.
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has granted final relief to a woman from Dera Ismail Khan who had remained deprived of her inheritance property for nearly half a century.
A three-member bench comprising Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Malik Shahzad and Justice Salahuddin Panhwar dismissed a plea filed by the opposing party and ordered implementation of the court’s 2022 decision in favor of Zitun Bibi.
The judgment was authored by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar.
The court expressed displeasure over the failure to implement judicial orders and emphasized the importance of respecting court decisions. It observed that the judicial system rests on confidence, discipline and the sanctity of judicial orders, which must be complied with in all circumstances.
Zitun Bibi’s father died in 1976, after which she remained deprived of her share in the inherited property for decades.
The latest proceedings bring a long-running inheritance dispute to a final stage, with the Supreme Court directing that its earlier decision in her favor be implemented.
The court had already dismissed the opposing party’s review petition in 2024. Despite that, the matter remained entangled in the non-implementation of judicial orders, prompting the Supreme Court to reiterate that its decisions must be respected and enforced.
