Information Corridor launched under the shared vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping to promote media partnerships, cultural ties, tourism and think tank cooperation.
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has announced the launch of the China-Pakistan Information Corridor, describing the initiative as a new chapter in the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and China.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Tarar said the initiative was launched alongside Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, and Jiang Zaidong, China’s ambassador to Pakistan.
“75 years of trust, now a new chapter,” Tarar wrote, highlighting the longstanding relationship between the two countries and the launch of the new initiative.
He said the corridor was guided by the shared vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping, reflecting the two governments’ stated commitment to strengthening bilateral engagement.
According to Tarar, the initiative aims to expand cooperation in several areas, including media partnerships, cultural ties, tourism and collaboration between think tanks.
The corridor is intended to provide a platform for closer engagement between the two countries in information exchange and related fields, according to the minister’s announcement. Its stated objectives include strengthening connections between media organisations and promoting cultural understanding and tourism-related cooperation.
Tarar’s announcement follows the broader emphasis on communication and people-to-people engagement reflected in his remarks at the corridor’s launch ceremony. The initiative brings media and information cooperation into focus as another area of engagement between Pakistan and China.
The minister also acknowledged the role of the two countries’ leadership in shaping the initiative, naming Shehbaz Sharif and Xi Jinping as the leaders whose shared vision guided its launch.
The participation of Mao Ning and Jiang Zaidong underscored the involvement of Chinese diplomatic representatives in the launch, Tarar said in his post.
Concluding his message, the information minister reaffirmed the friendship between the two countries with the phrases “Pak-China friendship forever” and “Long live China-Pakistan friendship” in Urdu and Chinese, respectively.
